Cuba welcomes with ceremony the bodies of soldiers killed in the Venezuela operation
Havana, January 16 (Hibya) – Cuba brought home, in an official ceremony, the bodies of 32 soldiers who lost their lives in the U.S. military operation carried out in Venezuela.
Cuba repatriated the bodies of 32 soldiers who were killed during the U.S. military operation in Venezuela in an official ceremony.
The special aircraft carrying the soldiers landed at José Martí International Airport in Havana. The coffins, draped with Cuban flags, were unloaded from the aircraft during a military ceremony accompanied by a salute. Many senior officials attended the ceremony, including prominent Cuban leaders Raúl Castro and President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
Following the airport ceremony, the bodies were taken under military convoy to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. Thousands of citizens accompanied the convoy through the streets of Havana to honor the soldiers. At the mourning ceremony held at the ministry building, families paid their respects first, followed by the public.
Cuban authorities announced that a mass commemorative march would be held on Friday, after which the soldiers would be buried in their hometowns.
