European Parliament calls on the EU to ensure its own security
Brussels, March 13 (Hibya) - The European Parliament has called on the European Union (EU) to take urgent action and ensure its own security.
MEPs argued that to ensure peace and stability in Europe, the EU must support Ukraine and become more resilient. The resolution states: "Europe is facing the most serious military threat to its territorial integrity since the end of the Cold War."
The European Parliament called on member states, international partners, and NATO allies to lift all restrictions on the use of Western-supplied weapons systems delivered to Ukraine against military targets on Russian territory.
MEPs highlighted that recent actions and statements from the Trump administration have increased concerns regarding future EU positioning toward Russia, NATO, and European security. Additionally, the European Parliament strongly condemned U.S. threats against Greenland.
The text states that the EU must "ensure a much faster response in its procedures" in case of war or other large-scale security crises. Stressing the importance of EU-NATO cooperation, MEPs called for the development of a fully capable European pillar within NATO that can act autonomously when needed.
