Guterres: Africa must be at the center of climate justice
New York, May 12 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that although Africa possesses 60 percent of the world’s solar energy potential, it receives only 2 percent of investments.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres drew attention to Africa’s clean energy potential, saying that the continent plays a critical role in the global energy transition.
Guterres emphasized that although Africa has around 60 percent of the world’s highest solar energy potential, it receives only 2 percent of global clean energy investments.
Stating that with proper financing the continent could generate ten times more electricity than it needs entirely from renewable sources by 2040, Guterres said, "Africa must be at the center of climate justice."
