UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that misinformation and geopolitical tensions should not overtake science in the face of the rapid pace of technological progress.

Referring to the unpredictable nature of artificial intelligence, Guterres said, “Artificial intelligence brings new capabilities and new uncertainties every week. Amid geopolitical divisions, fear and misinformation can easily replace science and evidence.”

Advocating for a science-based governance approach, Guterres noted, “An Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence can help steer global discussions from competing claims toward shared science.”
