Guterres: The war in Sudan is tearing the country apart
New York, May 12 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made an urgent appeal to the parties, drawing attention to the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing clashes in Sudan.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the situation of civilians in his statement evaluating the devastating effects of the war in Sudan.
Referring to the humanitarian cost of the war, Guterres said, “The war in Sudan is tearing the country apart. Civilians are paying an unimaginable price, with women and children suffering the most.”
Sharing his expectations regarding solutions and the political process, Guterres stated, “I reiterate my call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, a sustainable ceasefire, and a Sudan-led civilian democratic transition.”
