UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the escalation of violence in South Sudan, noting that around 10 million people require life-saving humanitarian aid and are severely affected by the fighting.

Calling on all parties, Guterres demanded the immediate and decisive cessation of military operations, de-escalation through dialogue, respect for international law, and the protection of civilians.

The UN Secretary-General also stressed the need to ensure safe and uninterrupted access for humanitarian assistance and to guarantee the security of aid workers and UN peacekeeping personnel.
