Guterres: Violence in South Sudan Must Stop Immediately
New York, February 8 (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalation of conflict in South Sudan, where nearly 10 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and called on all parties to immediately halt military operations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the escalation of violence in South Sudan, noting that around 10 million people require life-saving humanitarian aid and are severely affected by the fighting.
Calling on all parties, Guterres demanded the immediate and decisive cessation of military operations, de-escalation through dialogue, respect for international law, and the protection of civilians.
The UN Secretary-General also stressed the need to ensure safe and uninterrupted access for humanitarian assistance and to guarantee the security of aid workers and UN peacekeeping personnel.
