Houthis say Trump must "face consequences" for strikes on Iran
Stockholm, June 22 (Hibya) – A senior official of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen said early Sunday on social media that he would hold U.S. President Donald Trump responsible for U.S. airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.
Houthi political bureau member Hizam al-Asad wrote on X, "Trump must face consequences."
Previously, the Houthi-controlled Yemeni Armed Forces said in a statement that the group was ready to target U.S. Navy warships in the Red Sea "if the American enemy initiates an attack to support Israel."
The Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea in November 2023, initially targeting vessels linked to Israel in response to the war in Gaza. Later, after U.S. forces intervened to protect shipping, American warships became targets. The U.S. responded with a series of airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen until this spring.
