IAEA: Zaporizhzhya cooling towers must be demolished
Moscow, September 5 (Hibya)—Rafael Grossi, the head of the UN Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said the cooling tower at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Russia-controlled Ukraine was badly damaged in a fire last month and will probably have to be demolished.
Rafael Grossi assessed the damage during his fifth visit to the facility.
"This huge structure is not useful in the future, so it will probably be demolished," the agency chief said in a video posted on X.
Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of attacking the facility and risking a nuclear accident during the conflict.
