Iran accepts two-day plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz
Tehran, November 2 (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that the previously proposed seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz had been shortened to two days and that Iran had accepted the proposal.
According to CCTV, Araghchi said during ongoing talks with mediators in Qatar that the plan envisages the United States fulfilling its specified obligations on the first day, followed by the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on the second day and the restoration of maritime traffic to pre-conflict levels.
Araghchi stated that the conditions the United States must fulfill are outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. These conditions include establishing new navigation routes, releasing frozen Iranian assets, ending regional wars, including the conflict in Lebanon, lifting the naval blockade, and restoring sanctions waivers for Iranian oil exports.
The Iranian minister noted that negotiations between the two countries could resume once the United States fulfills its obligations and the strait is reopened. Araghchi emphasized that compliance with the two-day plan would pave the way for peace and the normalization of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
