Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi shared details of his high-level diplomatic engagements in Baghdad through messages posted on social media, while also delivering sharp criticism of the domestic and foreign policies of French President Emmanuel Macron.
OIC meeting held in Iraq after 45 years
Araghchi, who attended the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, for the first time in 45 years, announced that he had met with Iraqi Prime Minister Zaidi, as well as his Iraqi, Egyptian and Turkish counterparts, the new OIC Secretary-General and other senior officials attending the meeting. Araghchi stated that they expected the organization, under Iraq's leadership and the administration of the new Secretary-General, to play an active role in addressing challenges facing the Islamic world and resolving disputes among member states.
In addition to his regional diplomatic engagements, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi also targeted the policies of French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing his criticism in the following words:
"Mr. Macron brought about his own downfall by telling the US President that he welcomed atrocities against Iranians. It is now too late to blame the war that people like him helped bring about. The French people are demanding fundamental change, including freedom of assembly. Listen to France's future, Mr. President."
