Kallas: Moscow must not be allowed to violate European airspace
Brussels, May 29 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas spoke about airspace violations and the EU’s defense preparedness after a Russian drone struck a residential building in Galați, Romania.
European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas emphasized Romania’s sovereign rights.
Referring to the international law dimension of the attack, Kallas said, “The Russian drone striking apartment buildings in Galați is a clear and serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty and European airspace.”
Providing information about her discussion with her Romanian counterpart, Kallas stated, “This morning I spoke with Foreign Minister Oana Toiu and conveyed the EU’s full solidarity with Romania. Russia has long stopped respecting borders. Moscow must not be allowed to violate European airspace with impunity.”
Highlighting the determination shown at yesterday’s meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kallas concluded:
“Yesterday, EU Foreign Ministers pledged to increase pressure on Russia, enhance support for Ukraine, and invest in Europe’s own defense preparedness.”
