Lahbib: EU stands with Nepal
Brussels, August 27 (Hibya) - The European Union (EU) has allocated 1 million euros to support emergency relief efforts following the floods in Nepal.
European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said the floods had made roads impassable, cut off villages and left families searching for missing relatives. Lahbib said, “Roads are flooded. Villages are cut off. Families are searching for their missing loved ones.”
Lahbib said the floods had severely affected communities that were still trying to recover from previous disasters. “Flash floods in Nepal have shaken communities trying to recover from past disasters. The EU stands with them,” she said.
The allocated 1 million euros will be used to meet urgent needs for health services, food, water and shelter.
