EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib commented on the steps taken by the Israeli authorities against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Criticizing Israel’s intervention at UNRWA’s headquarters in Jerusalem, Lahbib said: “I strongly condemn Israel’s decision to evacuate and demolish UNRWA’s historic headquarters in Jerusalem.”

Highlighting UNRWA’s strategic and humanitarian importance in the region, Lahbib stated: “UNRWA has long been an important partner and a vital lifeline for millions of Palestinians.”

Recalling the requirements of international law, Lahbib said: “Humanitarian facilities and personnel must be protected, and international humanitarian law must be upheld.”
