Lahbib: Peace actors are needed to tackle fragility
Brussels, January 19 (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said that humanitarian needs are increasing amid rising conflicts and climate disasters worldwide, calling on all global actors to invest in durable solutions to tackle fragility.
EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib made a statement on global crises and growing humanitarian needs.
Drawing attention to the current state of the world, Lahbib said: “Today, there are more than 60 active conflicts worldwide. Climate disasters are hitting the most vulnerable groups harder and more frequently. Fragility is increasing everywhere, humanitarian needs are growing, but funding is not keeping pace. We must address the root causes of fragility before it turns into global crises.”
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation for durable solutions, Lahbib said: “Humanitarian aid saves lives. But to tackle fragility, we need peace actors, development banks, financial institutions, the private sector and charitable organizations.”
She added: “When we invest in durable solutions, the results can be tremendous: more peace, real progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, and stronger economies in fragile contexts. Fragility is not inevitable. Together, we can change its trajectory.”
