EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib reiterated, as she has emphasized during her mandate, that the EU stands with the people in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Lahbib noted that shelter, medical and nutrition assistance has reached South Kivu, stating: “Since the escalation of fighting in December 2025, the European Union’s Humanitarian Air Bridge has delivered 65 tons of life-saving aid to the region.”

Lahbib also mentioned the reopening of the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi, saying: “These are important steps, but the needs are enormous. We also expect greater contributions from other donors.”
