Lazzarini said that around 42,000 people in Gaza have suffered life-altering injuries, noting that one-quarter of them are children.

He emphasized that Gaza currently hosts the largest group of child amputees in modern history and said: “With the collapse of the medical system during the war, those with severe injuries are struggling to receive the treatment and rehabilitation they need to rebuild their lives.”

Lazzarini added that UNRWA teams, together with the World Health Organization and partners, are working tirelessly to ensure that none of these victims are left behind. Since the start of the war, more than 30,000 people with disabilities have received basic psychosocial support, and more than 8,000 have been provided with assistive devices and rehabilitation services.
