Lithuania calls for European leadership on Ukraine and Moldova
Vilnius, September 8 (Hibya) – Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said Europe should choose stronger support for Ukraine, tougher sanctions on Russia and Belarus, and a faster European path for Ukraine and Moldova.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys commented in a social media post on the meeting held with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas during the annual meeting of Lithuanian ambassadors.
Budrys said Europe must choose between “reacting or leading,” adding that Lithuania stands for leadership. In this context, he said stronger support should be provided to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and Belarus should be tightened, and the process of Ukraine and Moldova joining the European Union should be accelerated.
Budrys said that as Lithuania prepares for its upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, it will continue to focus on security, defense, transatlantic unity, EU enlargement and steadfast support for Ukraine, and thanked Kallas for her views and the valuable exchange of ideas at the meeting.
