Los Angeles Plans Curfew Against Looting Incidents
Los Angeles, January 10 (Hibya) - Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna announced plans for a nighttime curfew following reports of looting amidst ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The state's National Guard is prepared to patrol the affected areas.
The Governor of California stated that the deployment of thousands of National Guard personnel is part of the efforts by the US Armed Forces.
The Governor added, "In the coming days, we will use everything at our disposal, including our National Guard members, to protect communities. And to those intending to take advantage of evacuated areas, let me be clear: looting will not be tolerated."
Meanwhile, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said approximately 20 people have been arrested in affected areas since the first fires broke out on Tuesday.
Luna pledged to increase patrols and said his officers, soon to be supported by California National Guard soldiers, will proactively stop anyone seen in the evacuation area.
The sheriff stated, "By law, if we have an evacuation order and you remain in that area, you are committing an offense. If you are in one of these areas and do not belong there, you will be subject to arrest."
