Many people died in the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus
Stockholm, April 2 (Hibia) – Many people lost their lives in the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria. Israel was held responsible for the attack.
According to Syria and Iran, Israeli warplanes were behind the attack on the consulate in the center of Damascus. According to unconfirmed information, 6 people lost their lives in the attack that completely destroyed the consulate.
It was stated that two Iranian generals, including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, were among those killed in the attack.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that Israel will be held responsible for the attack, which he described as "a violation of all international agreements."
Israel has launched several airstrikes on targets inside Syria in recent days. On Sunday, Israeli warplanes attacked a research facility in Jamraya, just outside Damascus. According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), two people were killed.
Last week, Israel was blamed for an airstrike near Aleppo in Syria that was believed to target the Islamist Hezbollah movement. According to SOHR, at least 42 people were killed, including 36 Syrian soldiers and 6 members of the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah.
Lebanon's Iran-backed Islamist militia group Hezbollah threatened Israel after the attack and warned of revenge.
Hezbollah said in its statement, "Of course, this crime will not pass without punishment and revenge against the enemy."
