Merz: IP addresses will be retained for three months
Berlin, April 22 (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that IP addresses will be stored for three months as part of efforts to combat online crime.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that a new regulation has been adopted regarding crimes committed over the internet.
Merz said, "Perpetrators often go unpunished on the internet, especially when it comes to child abuse."
Referring to the decision taken, Merz stated, "The cabinet decided today: IP addresses will henceforth be retained for three months and will be used for investigations in cases of reasonable suspicion."
