One killed, 37 injured in new train accident in Spain
Madrid, Jan 21 (Hibya) – One person was killed and 37 others were injured, at least four of them seriously, after a commuter train hit a collapsed wall on the tracks near Barcelona.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening in the town of Gelida near Barcelona. The train derailed after striking a collapsed wall.
Catalonia’s police told Spanish media that the train driver died in the accident. Thirty-seven people were injured, at least four of them seriously.
At the time of the collision, the train driver was accompanied by three trainee drivers. It took rescue teams about an hour to extract one of the trainees from the wreckage.
According to El Mundo, heavy rain fell throughout the day in Catalonia, causing various incidents on the region’s railways.
On Sunday evening, a serious train accident occurred near Adamuz in southern Spain, leaving at least 41 people dead and more than 150 injured.
