Pavel: Roma people face societal prejudices in daily life
Prague, April 8 (Hibya) - Czech Republic President Petr Pavel, in a statement marking International Roma Day, highlighted the prejudices faced by the Roma community and emphasized the importance of community leaders in social integration.
President Petr Pavel met with representatives of the Roma community and local leaders as part of International Roma Day and evaluated the ongoing efforts.
Referring to the challenges faced by the Roma community in daily life, Pavel said: "Roma people still struggle with the prejudices of the majority society in their daily lives. That is precisely why Roma community leaders in socially excluded areas play an indispensable role."
Providing details about the meeting, Pavel stated: "On the occasion of International Roma Day, together with Eva, we thanked them for their important work and discussed what they need most in this effort."
Regarding the demands of community leaders, President Pavel said: "This primarily includes long-term and stable support, but also recognition by the public."
