Prevot: Allied security is indivisible
Brussels, May 29 (Hibya) - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot provided information on the crash of a Russian drone in a civilian residential area in Romania and security measures on NATO’s eastern flank.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot condemned the attack against Romania.
Referring to the consequences and risks caused by the attack, Prevot said: “We stand in full solidarity with Romania. Belgium condemns the crash of a Russian-made explosive-laden drone into a residential building in Galați, causing injuries to civilians and leading to evacuations. This is unacceptable and irresponsible behavior.”
Drawing attention to the potential for escalation, Prevot stated: “A weapon of war striking an apartment building in a country that is both an EU member and a NATO ally is a dangerous escalation that concerns us all. We fully support Romania’s diplomatic response and its call to accelerate counter-drone capabilities on the eastern flank.”
Highlighting Belgium’s military presence in the region and the Alliance’s defense approach, Prevot said: “Belgian soldiers are currently serving in Cincu, Romania, as part of NATO’s Forward Land Forces Battle Group. Allied security is indivisible.”
