Putin attends an Orthodox Christmas service near Moscow
Moscow, January 7 (Hibya) – Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a Christmas service at the St. Georgios Church in Solnechnogorsk-2, where members of the congregation, including serving soldiers and their families, were present. According to the Julian calendar, Christmas is celebrated in the Russian Orthodox Church on January 7.
After the service, Putin addressed the congregation. He described Jesus as the protector of humanity and then drew a parallel with Russian soldiers. He said that the armed forces defend the motherland and the people, and that this role is a sacred mission based on history.
Turning to the children in the congregation, Putin said they could be proud of their parents in uniform. He also referred to interfaith unity and, after thanking the soldiers for their service, wished all present a Merry Christmas.
