The 330 kV backup line was taken out of service on January 2 during military activity, leaving the plant dependent on a single 750 kV main power line. Technicians from Ukraine’s power grid operator are expected to begin repairs in the coming days under the short-term ceasefire.

An IAEA team departed from Vienna to the front line to monitor the work and ensure that safety measures are strictly implemented during the repairs.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said: “The fourth temporary ceasefire we negotiated demonstrates the indispensable role we continue to play. The IAEA continues to work closely with both sides to ensure nuclear safety at the ZNPP and to prevent a nuclear accident during the conflict.”
