Russia strongly condemns US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran
Moscow, June 22 (Hibya) – The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran, stating, “This irresponsible decision constitutes a serious violation of the UN Charter.”
The ministry said: “Russia strongly condemns the US attacks on a number of nuclear facilities in Iran at dawn on June 22, following Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic.”
“Regardless of the arguments presented, the irresponsible decision to target the territory of a sovereign state with missile and bomb attacks grossly violates international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council resolutions that have previously labeled such actions as unacceptable. It is particularly alarming that these attacks were carried out by a permanent member of the UN Security Council.”
“We call for an end to aggression and for intensified efforts to bring the situation back to a political and diplomatic track. The aggressive actions of the United States and Israel must be collectively rejected.”
“The consequences of this act, including radiological ones, have not yet been assessed. However, it is already clear that a dangerous escalation has begun, threatening regional and global security. The risk of escalation in the Middle East, which is already burdened by multiple crises, has significantly increased.”
“There is particular concern about the damage caused by the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities to the global non-proliferation regime based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The attacks have severely harmed the authority of the NPT and the verification and monitoring system of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”
“We expect an immediate, professional, and clear response from the IAEA leadership without evasive language or attempts to maintain political neutrality. An objective report by the IAEA Director General is needed to be reviewed at the agency’s upcoming special session.”
On the night of June 22, US President Donald Trump announced that the US had successfully struck three nuclear facilities in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. He stated that Tehran must agree to end the conflict. Prior to that, Israel had been attacking Iran daily since June 13, claiming the operation aimed to destroy the republic’s missile and nuclear programs.
