Tajani calls on Iranian authorities
Rome, January 11 (Hibya) – Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani called for respect for human rights amid the protests in Iran.
Tajani said that the events unfolding in Iran over recent days are being followed with great concern.
Stating that he supports the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people, Tajani urged the authorities to guarantee the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all protesters and, under all circumstances, to abandon the shameful use of the death penalty as a repressive measure.
Offering condolences to those who lost their lives during the demonstrations, Tajani said: “Italy, together with its European partners, is carrying out an urgent diplomatic effort to find a positive solution to the crisis, one that respects the aspirations of the Iranian people and the safety of its citizens.”
