Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN and discussed negotiations concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

Tajani said the understanding reached last June showed that an agreement was possible and that Italy would continue to support every step aimed at fully restoring freedom of navigation and ending the conflict.

Araghchi, noting that they also discussed the crises in Lebanon and Yemen, stressed that the passage of commercial vessels through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which is vital for exports, must be guaranteed.

Tajani said he had called on Iran to use its influence to promote political and diplomatic solutions that would bring peace and stability to the region, stressing the importance of fulfilling international obligations related to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tajani also emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and personal freedoms, particularly women's rights.
