Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani visited San Patrignano, one of the therapeutic communities dedicated to recovery from drug addiction.

Tajani said the government supports these organizations, which help people reintegrate into life. Highlighting the importance of communities in treating drug addiction, Tajani advocated greater use of these centers, particularly in the recovery process of people with drug addiction in prisons.

Tajani said they support an approach under which some convicts could serve their sentences in recovery facilities in order to reduce prison overcrowding linked to addiction-related offenses.

Noting that young people at San Patrignano and similar communities go through a difficult recovery process, Tajani emphasized the importance of continuous support from center staff throughout the process.

Tajani concluded his remarks with the message: “We stand with them. We stand with life and freedom.”
