The number of deaths from floods in Brazil reached 95
Stockholm, May 8 (Hibya) - At least 95 people lost their lives due to heavy rains and floods in the Rio Grande do Sul region of Brazil.
According to reports in the Brazilian media, more than 155 thousand people had to leave their homes due to rains and floods. According to authorities, more than 360 people were injured, and 131 people are being sought. The Brazilian Meteorological Agency predicts that the rain will continue.
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul declared a state of emergency, while Brazilian President Lula da Silva pledged funds to meet the current crisis.
On the other hand, in response to the flood disaster in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil mobilized its largest warship, the Multi-Purpose Aircraft Carrier "Atlântico", along with a fleet of support ships.
Equipped for large-scale humanitarian aid missions, “Atlântico” can produce 20,000 litres of drinking water per hour with its onboard purification system.
