Trump: We are accelerating development of ibogaine treatment
Washington, August 18 (Hibya) - United States (US) President Donald Trump commented on efforts to develop ibogaine, one of the psychedelic substances that could be used in the treatment of serious mental illnesses.
Trump recalled that he signed a presidential order in April aimed at accelerating treatment for serious mental illnesses, saying, “Psychedelic medicines, particularly ibogaine, have helped many of our veterans and true American heroes who are here in the Oval Office.”
Trump said the University of Miami submitted to the federal government a 1994 investigational new drug application for ibogaine, adding that this would accelerate the development of ibogaine as a medical treatment in the United States.
Trump said, “We are moving quickly so that our veterans with serious mental illnesses have the right to try treatment in the United States.” He also said veterans deserve such treatments and called on more companies and institutions to join the efforts.
