Tsahkna issues commemorative message for victims of Soviet intervention
Tallinn, January 13 (Hibya) – Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commemorated those who lost their lives as a result of the Soviet intervention in Lithuania in 1991.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna published a commemorative message on the anniversary of the January 1991 events.
Drawing attention to the events that took place 35 years ago, Tsahkna said: “Exactly 35 years ago today, unarmed Lithuanian civilians stood in front of Soviet tanks to defend their country’s freedom. The true face of Soviet brutality was revealed when 14 innocent people were shot and crushed by tanks at the Vilnius TV Tower.”
Emphasizing the link between that struggle and the present day, Minister Tsahkna concluded: “As we commemorate the victims of the January 1991 events in Vilnius, we also remember that Ukraine today is resisting aggression stemming from the same imperialist agenda.”
