Türk: Human rights cities are the guarantee of democracy and trust
Ulaanbaatar, May 14 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized that cities can ensure trust, stability, and democracy through human rights-oriented governance.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized at a forum held in Gwangju, South Korea, that cities can provide resilience, stability, and trust through human rights-oriented governance models.
Türk said, “Human rights offer a consistent governance model in cities; they promote resilience, stability, and trust. Human Rights Cities can serve as a fortress against today’s authoritarian and populist currents.”
Stating that Gwangju is a symbol of the universal power of civic solidarity and participation, Türk said, “Nearly fifty years ago, thousands of civilians stood shoulder to shoulder against oppression. Your city plays a major role in ensuring that such horrors are never repeated.”
