United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a statement regarding the humanitarian situation in Lebanon and the growing clashes.

Drawing attention to the wave of displacement in the region, Guterres said: "As tensions escalate in Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of civilians are fleeing with nothing but what they can carry with them."

Sharing his observations from the field, Guterres said: "I met some of them and listened to their heartbreaking stories."

Emphasizing that the safety of civilians must be a priority under international law, the Secretary-General said: "Civilians must always be respected and protected."

Stating that the violence in the region must be stopped, Guterres said: "This war must end."
