WHO: Viral hepatitis caused 1.3 million deaths in 2024
Geneva, April 28 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that approximately 1.3 million people worldwide died due to viral hepatitis in 2024.
According to data shared by the WHO, around 85 percent of the deaths were caused by Hepatitis B.
The organization also stated that since 2015, due to limited diagnostic and treatment capabilities, deaths related to Hepatitis B have increased by 17 percent.
On the other hand, it was noted that with the widespread use of effective antiviral treatments, deaths caused by Hepatitis C decreased by 12 percent during the same period.
The WHO emphasized that viral hepatitis continues to be a significant global public health issue and highlighted the critical importance of increasing access to early diagnosis, vaccination, and treatment.
