Zelensky: Russians launched hundreds of Shahed drones and dozens of missiles at Ukraine
Kyiv, April 3 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that during his meeting with Pope Leo XIV, Russia launched a new wave of attacks on Ukrainian cities using hundreds of UAVs and dozens of missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement regarding his meeting with Pope Leo XIV, the spiritual leader of the Catholic world, and the ongoing Russian air attacks.
Zelensky noted that the attacks were continuing even during the meeting, saying: "Today I met with Pope Leo XIV. During our meeting, the Russians attacked Ukraine once again; they launched hundreds of 'Shahed' drones and dozens of missiles at our cities and settlements. In fact, the attacks have been continuing in waves since last night, and at least five regions have been targeted."
Criticizing Russia’s approach to peace efforts, Zelensky said: "There is not even a single hour of peace for our people, and this is Russia’s response to our proposal for an Easter ceasefire. Essentially, the Russians have intensified their attacks, turning what should be silence in the skies into an Easter escalation."
Referring to humanitarian cooperation with the Vatican, President Zelensky stated: "I expressed my gratitude for the assistance in returning our abducted children and for all the humanitarian aid provided by the Vatican to our people, especially during this difficult winter period. I spoke about the negotiation process and our work with the American team. We also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region."
Zelensky concluded his statement by saying: "We would be pleased to welcome His Holiness the Pope for an apostolic visit to Ukraine. I am especially grateful that the Pope remembers Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, and prays for peace for our nation."
