Zelensky: Security guarantees and reconstruction discussed with the US
Kyiv, December 15 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared details of the talks held with the United States delegation, stating that work is underway on security guarantees, territorial issues, and financing for the country’s reconstruction.
President Zelensky assessed the initial meetings held with US representatives Witkoff and Kushner. He noted that teams conducted preparatory talks ahead of the meetings, saying, “It was very important for the American side to listen to all the details of the war. If these talks had taken place earlier, the progress would have been much greater.”
Zelensky emphasized that some points are destructive and should not be included in new draft documents. “This is of great importance, because dignity matters,” he said.
President Zelensky stated that there are differing views with Russia regarding territorial issues and that these differences need to be discussed openly. He added that the United States, acting as a mediator, is proposing various steps aimed at achieving at least a certain level of compromise. Zelensky said they would do everything possible to find clear answers on security guarantees, territories, and reconstruction financing, adding, “The source of this financing needs to be understood.”
Zelensky also stressed that before taking steps on the ground, it is crucial that security guarantees are clearly understood by both soldiers and civilians. He noted that efforts to put these matters on paper are ongoing and that the details developed by the military side, although a first draft, are quite solid.
