Al Thani and Lavrov discuss regional tensions
Doha, August 4 (Hibya) - Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The two sides discussed cooperation between Qatar and Russia and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations. They also reviewed the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, enhance security and stability, and strengthen joint coordination.
According to the statement, Al Thani stressed the importance of all parties remaining committed to dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing that implementing the provisions agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran, including safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, is vital for regional security and stability.
Al Thani also reiterated Qatar's support for all initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions and achieving lasting peace.
