Canadian Prime Minister Carney visits Xi in Beijing
Beijing, January 18 (Hibya) – Canadian Prime Minister Carney’s official visit to China resulted in the resolution of trade disputes between the two countries over electric vehicles, metals, and agricultural products.
According to CCTV, Canadian Prime Minister Carney met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his official visit to Beijing at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Following the visit, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced that the two countries had reached an agreement on specific arrangements regarding trade issues covering electric vehicles, steel, aluminum, canola, and agricultural and aquatic products.
Under the new arrangement, Canada will reduce the 100 percent tariff applied to Chinese-made electric vehicles to 6.1 percent, within an annual quota of 49,000 units.
