Israeli Finance Minister seeks to stop general strike
Stockholm, September 2 (Hibya) - Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has claimed that the general strike called tomorrow by the Israeli trade union Histadrut will have “significant consequences” for the Israeli economy.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also asked the courts to stop the strike.
Smotrich said that the strike lacks a legal basis because it is aimed at political changes, not changes in the labor market.
The Histadrut called on its members to go on a general strike to pressure the Israeli government to reach an agreement to bring home the last hostages in Gaza. This follows the discovery yesterday of the bodies of six hostages in Gaza.
