Kos: The EU accession process is not just about fulfilling formalities
Brussels, March 24 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasized in her meeting with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic that EU membership is not merely about procedures and that building democratic institutions should be the main priority.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos made a statement on Montenegro’s accession process and the necessity of democratic reforms.
Highlighting the depth of the accession process, Kos said, "The EU accession process is not just about fulfilling formalities, but about building democratic institutions capable of sustaining the requirements of life as an EU member state."
Referring to the content of her meeting with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic, Kos stated, "I discussed with President Jakov Milatovic that Montenegro must now prioritize fundamental issues, namely the essential components of democracy."
Recalling the importance of democratic standards, Kos said, "Without them, no country can join the EU."
