Lula: Education is not an expense, it is an investment
Brasília, June 26 (Hibya) – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that the second phase results of the 2025 School Census, released by the Ministry of Education (MEC), show a significant increase in literacy rates, a decline in school dropout rates, and higher student promotion rates.
President Lula said the results reflect the federal government's policies to strengthen education, from basic education to higher education, in cooperation with states and municipalities, adding: “Education is not an expense; it is an investment.”
Recalling that the government launched the “Pé-de-Meia” program to reduce school dropouts, strengthened full-time education, increased the school meal budget, invested in literacy programs, improved internet connectivity in schools, and supported student transportation, Lula said: “We are demonstrating that investing in education delivers results.”
Lula added: “I repeat, and I will continue repeating as often as necessary: education is not an expense; it is an investment. It is the best investment any government can make.”
