President Biden Pardons His Son Hunter Biden
Washington, December 2 (Hibya) - U.S. President Joe Biden announced that he pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who was expected to face sentencing this month for federal tax and gun charges, signaling a reversal as his term nears its end.
The president stated: "Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter." According to a copy of the executive pardon authority, this is a "full and unconditional pardon".
This official pardon cannot be overturned by President-elect Donald Trump.
By pardoning his son, Joe Biden broke a public promise he had repeatedly made before and after withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race. The president and his chief spokesperson in the White House had clearly stated that Hunter Biden would not be pardoned or have his sentence commuted, even if Trump won the 2024 election.
The pardon means that Hunter Biden will not be punished for his crimes and eliminates the possibility of him being imprisoned, which was a potential outcome. Judges handling his cases will likely cancel the sentencing hearings scheduled for the gun case on December 12 and the tax case on December 16.
