Qatar participated in the high-level segment of the 61st session of the UN HRC
Geneva, February 24 (Hibya) – Qatar took part in the high-level segment of the 61st session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, represented by Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, delivering messages on human rights, regional stability, and humanitarian assistance.
Qatar participated in the ongoing high-level segment of the UN HRC’s 61st session in Geneva. The country was represented by Minister of State for International Cooperation Al Misnad.
In her speech, Al Misnad emphasized that for nearly 20 years the HRC has contributed to the protection of human rights through multilateral collective action based on the principles of freedom, justice, equality, and mutual respect. She stated that Qatar considers the protection of human rights a fundamental element of its foreign policy and a national priority.
Al Misnad noted that over the past two decades Qatar has played the role of a neutral mediator, contributing to ceasefire agreements in regional and international conflicts, facilitating prisoner exchanges, supporting the restoration of diplomatic relations, and strengthening stability by backing peace agreements.
The minister stressed that women, children, the sick, and the elderly in Gaza urgently need humanitarian assistance, highlighting the importance of ensuring access to essential needs such as medicine, food, education, and a safe living environment. She described Gaza’s stability as a cornerstone of regional development plans.
Al Misnad also stated that Qatar supports the ceasefire agreement in Syria and values integration between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, aiming to reinforce civil peace and strengthen security and stability. She reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support for the brotherly Syrian people.
The minister expressed deep concern over the conflict in Sudan, noting that the war results in hundreds of deaths daily and exacerbates humanitarian crises and human rights violations. Qatar reiterated its call on all parties to prioritize national interests, end the war, and achieve lasting peace. She added that Qatar has provided 10 million US dollars in humanitarian assistance to women in Sudan.
Al Misnad concluded by affirming that Qatar will continue to support mediation and international cooperation efforts aimed at promoting peace, protecting human rights, and safeguarding human dignity.
