Child in critical condition after shark attack in Sydney
Stockholm, Jan. 18 (Hibya) – A child was attacked by a shark in eastern Sydney and is in critical condition after sustaining serious injuries to both legs.
The child, believed to be about 12 years old, was pulled from the water on Sunday afternoon at Shark Beach in Nielsen Park in the eastern suburb of Vaucluse.
New South Wales police said first responders treated the child at the scene using tourniquets.
Shark Beach was closed and police advised swimmers not to enter the water.
The shark net at Nielsen Park had been damaged during heavy waves in April 2025, with repairs completed in early December.
It is understood the child was swimming outside the net at the time of the attack.
