Luxon: We are making intense efforts to ensure fuel needs are met
Wellington, March 23 (Hibya) - New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said that during his meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, they agreed to safeguard supply chains between the two countries and to sign a Critical Supplies Trade Agreement in response to the negative impact of Middle East conflicts on energy supply.

Referring to the economic effects of regional conflicts, Luxon said: "In an environment where conflicts in the Middle East are causing supply disruptions and rising gasoline prices, we are making intense efforts to ensure New Zealand’s fuel needs are met."
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with Singapore, Luxon stated: "Given that one-third of New Zealand’s fuel is refined in Singapore, it was great to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong this evening. We agreed on the importance of maintaining the flow of essential goods, including fuel, between our countries."
Sharing concrete steps for the future, Luxon said: "When I visit Singapore in May, we will sign the Critical Supplies Trade Agreement, which will help ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains for fuel, food, and other goods."
Highlighting the basis for cooperation, Luxon added: "Building on the strong platform we have created together, we also discussed what our governments can do to overcome these supply chain challenges."
