UK Prime Minister Starmer to hold COBRA meeting
London, March 31 (Hibya) - UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will chair an urgent COBRA (Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms) meeting this afternoon to assess the impact of conflicts in the Middle East on the global economy and UK households.
According to the BBC, Starmer said the purpose of the meeting is to ensure that everything that needs to be monitored is being tracked and properly overseen.
Ahead of this critical summit, Starmer met yesterday at Downing Street with executives from companies in the energy, shipping, and banking sectors (Shell, BP, Maersk, HSBC, Goldman Sachs).
The main topic of discussions was Iran’s ongoing blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on energy prices and supply chains.
Speaking to business leaders, Starmer emphasized that the government cannot handle this crisis alone and that a joint effort is required.
