US Secretary of State Rubio met with UN Secretary-General Guterres
Washington, May 19 (Hibya) - United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and discussed a more effective vision for the UN and global security issues.

Describing the main focus of the meeting, Rubio said, “I met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. We discussed advancing the President’s vision for a more effective, efficient, and accountable UN.”
Referring to the leadership position at the World Food Programme (WFP), Rubio stated, “While discussing this peace-focused vision, I emphasized that Luke Lindberg is the right leader for the WFP. His appointment is crucial to ensuring that the UN operates with the transparency and accountability needed to feed the world.”
Drawing attention to regional security and health crises, Secretary Rubio concluded his statement with the following words:
“We also discussed US efforts at the UN to stop Iran’s illegal actions in the Strait of Hormuz and how the US rapidly mobilized resources to respond to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.”
