Zelensky: Europe must be equipped with real power to protect its airspace
Kyiv, March 1 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing developments in the Middle East, emphasized that Europe must strengthen its own defense capacity against ballistic missile and drone attacks.
Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement regarding Europe’s defense strategies and the inadequacy of its air defense systems.
He stated that the recent attacks in the Middle East have proven that even the most advanced systems struggle to provide 100 percent protection: “Europe must ultimately be equipped with real power and capabilities to defend its airspace, land, and sea against any kind of attack. In particular, this means creating sufficient air defense production capacity against both unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic missiles.”
Zelensky added: “The situation in the Middle East shows how difficult it is to provide full protection against missiles and ‘Shahed’ drones. Even in Gulf countries that have more advanced and more numerous air defense systems than those provided to us by our partners, not all ballistic missiles can be intercepted. There have also been ‘Shaheds’ that regional air defenses failed to stop.”
Emphasizing the importance of Ukraine’s wartime experience, Zelensky said: “Everyone can now see that Ukraine’s experience in the field of defense is irreplaceable in many respects. We are ready to share this experience and to support the countries that have helped Ukraine this winter and throughout the war. We are ready to work to develop Europe’s joint defense capabilities.”
